How to fix turn signal problems on an '84 Honda Shadow VT700C?

The problem is this: the running lights work, but the blinkers do not. When I turn the switch to the left, the right running light stays on and left goes dark. When I turn the switch to the right, the left light stays on and the right goes dark. The turn signal indicator doesn't flash in the dash, and the rear signals don't blink either.

So far, I have disassembled the turn signal switch housing, cleaned with electrical contact cleaner and greased with dielectric goo.
 
Get a service manual for your bike. Then turn to the wiring diaghram in the back. There, after following the wires that come/go to all 4 lights a relay. My guess is that the relay has failed. But TEST the relay as per the manual to make sure. also make sure that all common grounds on the bike are good tight connections with no corrossion.
