How to fix lag on Samsung Flight when typing a text message?

Ive had a Samsung Flight for over a year and never had any trouble with the keyboard lagging at all. Recently, I switched to a new one (new for me) and the keyboard is sooo slow, which is extremely frustrating for a frequent texter! Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Ive already reset it to factory setting
