Well, the best we can do with this information is guess. I mean, no one out here can physically take a look at it and test it to determine exactly what is wrong with it.
But, if the cord on the adapter had broken, and he managed a temporary fix, then at the very least getting a replacement power adapter would be in order. If you get a replacement power adapter, will that fix the problem? Probably, but I don't know. At the very least, replacing the broken power adapter with a new one will fix the broken power adapter issue. At that point, you can proceed further and see if there is anything else. But, until you repair what you KNOW is wrong, you cannot determine if there is anything else wrong.
So, get a replacement power adapter. Do not buy a Universal Power Adapter... get an exact replacement, either off Ebay, or from Fujitsu.
