How to fix air ride rear suspension added to '86 Dodge Aries LE?

Ok about 2 years ago my Ma bought an '86 Dodge Aries LE. Why buy a then 20+ year old used car you say? This one was literally driven by the proverbial "little old lady" who was selling the car to take it away from her hot rodding grandson, and the body was pristine and it is undented/no rust/good paint all around. I ran a CarFAX on it and it was certified low mileage at 95,000 miles and a perennial emissions passer. My Ma bought it and as she is maintaining it has found a few extra goodies. For one the LE Aries came stock with a 2.2L engine, but this one had the 2.5L engine dropped in it, the pedals (LOL) have been replaced with vented aluminum sports car style pedals, and the rear suspension has an air ride suspension installed with a little tire valve poking out of the top of the rear bumper for adjustments with more or less air. The rear end rides rough and thuds over big bumps and large speed bumps, we have puffed it up in the past and then it becomes infinitely more smooth and compliant in ride quality but somewhere the air leaks out or dissipates and we are back to square one. The largest problem is that we have NO idea of the brand or method of the air ride components, but do they generally work the same with a similar layout? Thanks ahead of your advice.
