how to fix 1991 chevy door lock?

I have a problem with my driver side door lock on my 91 chevy. I cannot unlock it from the outside with a key but I can unlock it from the inside. Someone tried to break in and the lock is messed up now. I have removed the door panel and can see that both of the rods are still attached, I need to know if this would be happening if the keyhole is messed up or what please give me some info on this if you have any experience with this.
 
you will have to change lock cylinder however you can go to a gm dealer and show proof of ownership and have the lock reset to your
key so you don't have seperate keys. cylinder comes off with only one clip on inside of door. bout 10 min.
 
you need to take the rod off from inside and remove the clip that holds the lock and remove it and put another lock in.
