How to find an electronics mentor / teacher in the NJ / NY area?

I am really interested in learning electronics so that I could perhaps design a simple circuit and at least troubleshoot some basic electronic devices such an audio amplifier, power supply, etc. I have a BS degree in electrical engineering and AAS in electronics. Most of my college school work was theoretical with little practical application. The majority of courses were math, physics, chemistry, history, english, thermodynamics, statics, and others. Few deal with electronics and most were all theoretical with little real world application.

How can I find someone to teach me electronics (analog/digital) rather than just reading basic books on the subject or highly theoretical engineering books. I would like to be able to troubleshoot basic electronic circuits that one would find in real life not just on an exam in school. I could certainly re-learn the basic principles of electronics that I studied in school about 10 years ago. I've taken these courses both at a technical school and university, so I know what these courses cover and that they do not prepare you to tackle a real world project. What I need is someone with some years of practical experiences guiding me through some real world experiments / projects.

What can someone like me do to really learn old fashion analog and digital electronics well? Not just good enough to pass the exam problems? I want to master the use of an oscilloscope and other meters proficiently. I have an oscilloscope, signal generator and multimeter in my bedroom already for years.

I know I'm not alone. Most of my colleagues that graduated with me could not repair anything electronic or design anything other than perhaps programming a micro-controller or writing some computer code which is not what I am interested in doing at this point.

Most books and courses teach very simple circuit concepts with very few components in them. I've never had the opportunity to work on or study a more complex electronic circuit with someone that could help me understand the big picture of what is going on and "fill in the blanks" on whatever I am missing out on. Most people would just say try experimenting and "messing" with electronics on your own but I know that will not work for me without any sort of guidance or someone to consult when I am totally stuck.

I live in New Jersey. Please, if anyone has some good suggestions or know of anyone that I could contact, I would greatly appreciate it.

My sincere thanks to everyone in advance.
