Okay, stupid math related question. I'm reading a book about cooking ratios and it says things like for bread use 5:3 (5 parts flour, 3 parts water + yeast, salt) but I don't have a kitchen scale and can't do this by weight...so say I am using 2 cups of flour - how do I figure out what to use for the water...I need to know the METHOD, not the answer so that I can do this for all the recipes. Thanks!
Yes, it should be by weight to be 100% correct, but I don't have room for a kitchen scale so volume measurements will get me close enough.
Do I just cross multiple - i.e. take the 5:3 ratio...should it be 5/3 = 2/x (if say I'm using 2 cups of flour...do I just cross multiply this to find the answer?)
