On Nov. 15, the PlayStation network will likely be hosed, making it difficult to get that day-one patch in a timely manner. Fortunately, you can download the patch to a USB key right now, plug it into your PS4 on Friday, and be ready to go.
To get started, you'll need a Web-connected computer and a USB storage device with at least 1GB of free space.
1. Create a folder on your USB storage device. This is where you'll stash the system update.
2. Create a "PS4" folder. Inside that folder, create another folder named "UPDATE."
3. Download system update 1.50, and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.
4. Save the file with a new name: "PS4UPDATE.PUP."
When you get your PlayStation 4:
5. Make sure your PlayStation 4 is turned off.
6. Connect the USB storage device to your PlayStation 4, and press the power button for at least 7 seconds. The PlayStation 4 will start in Safe Mode.
7. Select "Update System Software."
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
9. If your PlayStation 4 doesn't recognize the 1.50 system file, make sure that the folder and file names are correct.
