I don't like the "mobile chat" feature.
I don't remember turning it on. I guess I must have, to try it out.
Today I saw someone I /thought/ had ignored some of my Yahoo IM messages had replied to my most recent yahoo IM message after all, and that it had shown up in an inconspicuous box on my Yahoo mail screen.
These replies were missing any kind of timestamp.
These replies did not show up in a Yahoo IM offline reply box, when I re-established my yahoo IM connection. Nor did they show up in the Yahoo IM message archive.
I have no idea how many other occasions when I apparently didn't receive a reply, I did receive one, after all -- but they showed up in an inconspicuous Yahoo mobile chat box that I wasn't looking for and didn't notice.
I keep all my archived IM messages in the archive, and I think that this feature doesn't log messages in the archive is a terrible oversight on the part of the programmers.
The missing timestamp and missing archival are extremely undesirable features of the mobile chat feature. They are so undesirable that if I can't figure out how to turn them off I will be forced to abandon using Yahoo in future.
There are no obvious instructions on how to disable this highly undesirable feature.
