How to deal with my wireless internet connection...?

HI I am using a wireless internet connection at home pretty much all the time. I teach English classes online using internet conferencing software. I am teaching in the early mornings (in my time zone) when internet traffic shouldnt be too bogged down. The modem is in my bedroom and i am literally right below my bedroom when i am teaching my classes. I am noticing lately that there is a delay on my speaking ( so what they hear) and that ometimes the sound just cuts out (they cant hear me). I can always hear everything perfectly......is there anything I can do to help this issue I am having? Is it even me, could it be on the other end? HELLP
