All my mom does is sit in front of Fox news all day and buy every little word they say, no matter how unsubstantiated it is. There is nothing I can get her to do to change the channel. She's the most prejudice person I know, everything from racism to homophobia. She literally believes people who aren't white are naturally less intelligent, and Muslims should just be nuked. She's just full of so much irrational hate, it's sick that she can't think for herself.
Because I object to this, she calls me liberal like it's an insult, which I'm not even. I'm solidly libertarian; I believe in the utmost of both social and economic freedoms. But she says this means I'm liberal. She makes no sense. I think anyone should be able to marry whomever they want, as well as extensive privatization, etc.
The best part is, she says she just hates government control, even though her ideals fall heavily in govt. control where social freedoms come into question (everything involving race, religion, sexual orientation, etc). And calls me a communist. WTF. At least I have a grasp on how the economy actually works rather than OMG SOCIALIZM IS THE DEVIL!!! Whenever I challenge her, or god forbid, fox news, she says I just don't understand.
And my dad defends her, doesn't have much of his own opinion.
Basically, how do I handle this? I mean, talking to her that is. I'm living on my own, but I want to actually be able to have a conversation with her rather than an automaton.
(And, as a disclaimer, I don't support any major news channel; people rely on them far to much to tell them what to think)
