How to control the desire for sweets?

When I was younger my parents were really strict about sweets. We never had chips, cake, or ice cream in the house. Sometimes I was allowed to get a pint of hagen daazs but I had to eat it over a couple of weeks. When I asked to buy candy during grocery shopping they never would. I was always sugar starved and could not really eat fruit because I was allergic. When I went over to friends house or my grandparents house I would devour all they're snacks and they wouldnt understand why. Sometimes people would ask me if I was getting fed at home. Anyways, now that I am living on my own and have been grocery shopping on my own for the first time I have been buying snacks uncontrollably. Theres so many snacks I have never had before and am only having them now for the first time as an adult. I am going crazy trying all these new snacks I never had before. I buy all these ice cream flavors, chips, and cookies. For the first time I can eat them openly and have as much as I want. It is not unusual for me to have a pint of ice cream in about 45 minutes and have a bunch of chips in the same day. I eat snacks everyday. Whether it be ice cream, cheescake, chips, what have you.

I want to stop this. I know it is unhealthy but Im like a kid in a candy store because I can eat snacks for the first time. I feel I will develop health problems at this rate but I have an insatiable sweet tooth. My sweet tooth is never satisfied I can just keep going and going. When I try to control myself and not have sweet and get really antsy and feel like im going crazy. When you are really craving sweets how do you stop yourself? I am always craving sweets...always!! Is the solution just not to buy them? If they do happen to be in the house how do I stop myself? Any tips? Please dont tell me anything crazy like eating in front of the mirror because that wont help lol ill still eat snacks. What I need is advice on controlling the sugar craving.
Don you are really not helping. Not everyone can control their sugar cravings. You may have control over them but I am having trouble so telling me to just stop is not advice. I was not exposed to snacks as a child so now I am going overboard and dont know how to stop. Its not a normal situation where I was exposed to sugar and snacks and learned how to deal with balance and proper nutrition. You dont have to be undermining.
