how to connect to xbox live using a vodafone dongle K3675 and windows xp?

i bought a vodafone dongle on saturday and am anxious to connect to xbox live. my computers os is windows xp and the dongle is a k3675. i keep getting an error message stating the xbox cannot detect the ip address or dns settings. i have tried using the command prompt revealing the previously mentioned settings but to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated
