How to connect ipod to my ford edge?

I have a Ford, Edge. I believe it's a 2008 model. It has the Microsfot SYNC thing. When I connect my ipod with the USB into my car, it says the ipod has been connected. On top of the ipod screen i see the label for FORD. but. i don't know how to get the music to work. it's not working and i believe i need to push a few buttons to get it to work. help please?
