So at my work we have this 10g fish tank with 1 goldfish. There were 2 goldfish but the other one died not too long ago. We're getting rid of the current goldfish and adding in some more appropriately sized fish.
The tank is disgusting. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. I bought a brand new filter and new sand and I'm buying a ton of new stuff for it in a few weeks. I'm worried about cleaning it out completely though. If I replace everything and clean it out completely, wouldn't I need to restart the whole cycling process? If I put conditioner in the water would that be okay? The goldfish won't be staying for long anyways.
I've tried scrubbing the sides of tank, but the algae and waste has just been there for so long that the only thing to do is bleach everything. The gravel in the tank is disgusting too. We have a gravel vacuum at my work but I'm assuming no one uses it. My boss just wants it to look nice so I'm in charge of taking care of it all now =/
And one more question... could the leftover goldfish food be used for tropical fish/bottom feeders?
I'm keeping about half the gravel but i wanted to bleach it first, and im keeping all the decorations in until i buy new stuff. im getting rid of all the fake crap and puttin live plants in with just one aerating ornament. i wont be getting new stuff for about 3 weeks though.
lmfao ill take a picture of it tomorrow before i clean it.
and i dont have a choice but to get all the fish at once. the pet store is so far away that i can only make one trip. im also gonna try to convince my boss to get a 20g tank but i dont know if we have room for it.
