How to: BlackBerry to Cricket 8830 or any other BB

Try a different PRL. Like 1040. The Verizon ones are pretty simple. Then dial #4357* and see if it loaded. Also, go to the ##000000 menu and set the SID to what it is in your area.

I tried the 1050 prl, because it says that 1040 is non evdo.
When I use #4357* and look at PRL version it says 1050, so I suppose that means it worked. I then went to ##000000 and changed my SID to 4279 (Austin, tx), saved it.
But everything is still the same, network settings shows Verizon, and when placing a call its the "American Roaming Network".

**UPDATE**
I just tried dialing *228 and was greeted with "Welcom to cricket"! :clapping:
I am assuming this is all I need to do now is call this number and set it all up?
Thanks A buch!

**UPDATE2**
Well I guess I was being to optimistic, I tried that *228 and the automated process said they couldnt "program my phone".
When I try dialing a number now, I still get the same thing. Do I need to go to a cricket store now? Because, up to this point I still have not even spoken to anyone at Cricket.

you need to add the esn to your acct and then manually program your nam

if you need any explanation on what all that means, see the FAQ Sticky

ok, so I set up the esn # on my account, got my new phone number and put that in the mdn slot. dialed *228, and it still says that my phone can not be programmed!

What have I missed?

**UPDTAE**
Ok, so I got my MIN# and my SID# from cricket, put those in and now, it appears to be working, at least somewhat. The only thing now is I cant seem to get on the web. Ill do some more research....
Thanks!

Well, I am able to place and recive calls, however I cannot get *228 working.
I also am not able to get mms, sms, or web working.
I have entered 'MYCRICKETNUMBER'@mycricket.com and 'cricket' for the password for the SIP user ID and password. My BB reg ID is 2004. My MIP user id is the same as the SIP.
Any ideas are much appriciated. :help:
Thanks

Sorry, this is a BB curve 8330
One thing of not that I just noticed, when using ##000000 it shows my sid as being 5031, however when using #4357* is shows the sid as 4279.
Could this be causing an issue, or is this nothing?

Alright so I went into a cricket store yesterday after work to see if they could tell what was wrong, and they looked at all of my settings in ##000000 and said they were all correct.
So Im not sure if the lady I spoke to was just not very knowlagable or what, but at this point would it maybe be worth tring a different prl file? Im using 1050 right now on my 8330 as I belive that is the correct type of prl for an evdo phone, so maybe just try a different evdo prl? That should not mess up my phone calling ability should it?
Thank you.

Thanks for your reply smitty68521, according to the sticky by Isriam. (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1527511)

the AWS markets are :
Beaumont, TX
Brownsville, TX
Corpus Christi, TX
Laredo, TX
Las Vegas, NV
McAllen, TX
Oklahoma City, OK
St. Louis, MO.

I am in Austin, Tx so I dont think that is my problem, what about RyanMogul6800 excerpt? (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1507276) -

"Important note on PRL files. You must know what kind of Cricket Plan you have. If you have Roaming on your plan you need to use the 5 digit PRL files. If you DO NOT have Roaming on our plan you must use the 4 digit PRL files. Otherwise *228 will not work and you will not be able to Authenticate. Examples below.

PRL 1013 = Non Roaming
PRL 38515 = Roaming"

I am on the $45.00 per month plan that includes "premium extended coverage" but I have no included roaming mins. Also, I have the 1050 prl loaded right now.

Thanks

Also to add, when I try to open my browser I am greeted with the message - "Your device does not currently have any browser configuration service book entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the browser on your device."
Would this be resolved if I am able to get the OTAP to go through?

**UPDATE**
Ok, I put the 1014 prl on it and now I sporadically get an 'ev' on my signal meter, but still cannot get *228 to work :disappoin

Still, have no sms, web, mms. Only recieve sms, and place and recieve calls..

**UPDATE2**
Now I went to Options/Advance/Host Routing Table. and there are "no entries". Also, same for service book, maps - default service = "none", default services option is just blank. Browser Push shows many options, all of which are enabled. GPS Data Source = "Device GPS" and GPS Service = "911 only".

Im thinking these are not correct? I got this phone off of craigslist and the guy said he cleared or reset it, did he jack it up maybe? Do i need to just upgrade or reload the OS, and then rewrite the prl?
Im flat out of ideas here..

Alright, some progress..
I did like you said and this time *228 worked :2thumbs:

However, Iv yet to see any benifets from this as sms ect still not working.. :befuddled

The error I get when trying to send a sms is "SMS error 97, Message ID 22) Service denied

**UPDATE**
Thanks randomwit,
called cricket had them "refresh" my services, rebooted phone and now sms is working :)

Now if I could just get the internet and mms working....
