How to be tactful in this situation?

I am a manager. I have a staff meeting in two weeks with the staff I oversee. I would prefer if my boss did not attend this month. Not all bosses attend these staff meetings. My department is easy and doesn't have any major issues this month. My boss spoke with some of my staff and clients a few weeks ago. My boss knows what's going on. I would like to talk with the staff as a group without putting them on the spot by her presence. Also my boss and I are have difficulties working together right now. There's a weird tension felt by others when my boss and I are in the same room. I get nervous and go overboard in attempts to fix the tension with my boss. Of course it backfires. I don't want that to happen at this staff meeting. If my boss wasn't there I could focus on the issues that I need to discuss with my staff rather than worrying about being appropriate and etc with my boss. Then I would have four weeks to work on the relationship with my boss without staff/clients being there. I don't know how to ask my boss to not attend the staff meeting this month. Is there a tactful and professional way to say it?
