how to activate an iphone 3gs to t-mobile?

do i just go to the t-mobile store and tell them i want to activate my iphone and they will do the rest? or can anyone who activated their iphone to t-mobile tell me the process? another thing, are all the t-mobile plans for their phones the same for the iphone? thank you so much for your answer
