How the hell is swimming a tougher sport than wrestling?

the swimmers always say its harder than wrestling, this makes no sense when your swimming the water doesnt fight back, and the workouts for wrestling are so tough most people quit the first week. At my school during the first two weeks we had 40-50 freshman try out and only 9 of them made it through to the regular season. Swimming all you really do is splash around in the water and try to beat a clock or a swimmer next to you.
i swam my first year of middle school and it was pretty easy than i started wrestling, it was such a big difference i was exausted and couldent move after the first practice.

Both sports obviously require extreme exertion out of your body. Swimmers and Wrestlers are both amazing athletes and you could argue all day which sport is more demanding on ones body.
In My opinion the reason why wrestling is much tougher than swimming is the mental aspect. Not saying that there is no mental aspect to swimming, but wrestling, boxing, ect... requires more mental toughness and sheer determination than any other sport.
