Ever hear of the Holy Roman Empire? Charlemange was the first emperor of it. He combined most of the European continent to form the empire. That's pretty succesful

I would say very successful.

Highly successful, in that much of Europe's royalty could trace their roots back to him for 1000 years and beyond--a highly successful blood line.

In his lifetime, he managed to unite Western Europe and control much of Central Europe. He established the French and German Monarchies and superseded the Lombards as the protector of the Church.

Edit:
Hey Phoenix, aren't we supposed to at least make mention of the Wiki when we copy and paste from it?

Charlemagne
Latin: Carolus Magnus, meaning Charles the Great; numbered Charles I of France and the Holy Roman Empire) (742/747 – 28 January 814) was King of the Franks from 768 to his death. He expanded the Frankish kingdoms into a Frankish Empire that incorporated much of Western and Central Europe. During his reign, he conquered Italy and was crowned Imperator Augustus by Pope Leo III on 25 December 800 as a rival of the Byzantine Emperor in Constantinople. His rule is also associated with the Carolingian Renaissance, a revival of art, religion, and culture through the medium of the Catholic Church. Through his foreign conquests and internal reforms, Charlemagne helped define both Western Europe and the Middle Ages.
