How simple is it to change ATT Phones?

Pretty much what the title is. Because right now i have the Iphone 3GS for ATT and i want to upgrade to an Iphone 4. The only catch is that i dont wanna pay crazy prices for a new one. so im thinking bout just finding one on craigslist. Is it as simple as just putting a sim Card in the new phone? or is there more
