How should I treat this injury?

I am 55 yr old female. I have had chronic back pain and joint pain. I also have osteoporosis due to having Graves Disease that went untreated too long. I'm pretty much always in pain, but just had to learn to live with it. I got desperate and started going to a chiropractor about 3 months ago. Long story short, that brought on new problems so I quit.

A week ago I was preparing to have a yard sale and was setting up the night before. I tripped over something in the dark and fell head first hitting my head on the dirt, which wasn't the worst of it. I also hit the corner of a hard plastic tub on chest in my sternum area. I couldn't breath and I felt like there was a knife in my sternum. I obviously caused some damage to the area and it's got a dark bruise. I iced it but could barely stand up straight the next few days, which was difficult because of having a huge yarRABale, nightmare. Now here we are a week later and my whole body still hurts, it hurts to take a deep breath. I thought yesterday doing some stretches would help, but this morning I was way worse and woke up at 4:00 in pain in my chest and my whole upper back area, not just a little pain, but enough that I couldn't sleep and had to get up because it was impossible to get in a comfortable position.

My question, should I be resting an injury like this, icing it, heat. It even hurts to wash my hanRAB, due to the position of putting my hanRAB together and putting even a slight amount of pressure. I don't even know what I would ice or apply heat to, because I hurt all over because I knocked myself out of alignment. I wouldn't even want to be touch by way of an adjustment at this point, I think it would make it worse.

Any suggestions?

I think you should be checked out by a doctor. When you don't know what you actually did to your body when you fell, you could be sorry later. I fell and hit the back of my neck on a granite base of a memorial stone, and thinking I didn't break anything, did not get checked out, and found out nine months later that I had severely pushed my vertebrae out of place and it was pressing on my spinal cord. I wish I had gone and had an x-ray the day I fell.

Thank you, I know you're right. I don't have insurance and I'm trying to avoid going right now. I recently had to have some blood work done and it didn't seem like much, but it came to $250 which I can't really afford right now. I was just hoping some one on here has had a similar injury and knew how I should be treating it at home. My guess is to rest up and not do much because everytime I do my normal housework, ie vacuuming, wash etc, I end up worse the next day. Thank you for your sound advise though, I completely agree.
