My son is 17 months old. Generally he's a very happy toddler, yet he hits when he's happy, sad, mad, or playing. He also pulls hair... he thinks it's playing but it seriously hurts. A simple hug turns into him wrapped around my head and in my hair. I understand at this age the tantrums begin but his hitting/hair pulling problems are sometimes separate from tantrums. He also has begun to push the limit. He insist on doing things, we've gone over and over, that he's not supposed to do.
My son can build up blocks, point to 7 body parts, fulfill simple commands, recognizes and retrieves many items, even shakes his head no when he doesn't want something or doesn't want to do something. He is developing reasoning skills but why does he insist on repeating the same day to day no no's. Such as turning the tv on or off over and over again or climbing up on the table. My ultimate dilemma is deciding to spank him or keep saying "no". As of now, neither are working.
*FYI... when i say spank i mean on his hands or the flabby part of his arm or leg. Neither bring him to tears or leaves marks/bruises. It only deters his actions temporarily? I don't believe in beating.
