How reliable is Virgin Media?

I currently have Sky TV and BT Broadband, but am considering moving to Virgin Media. They claim to offer much faster broadband (as I currently only get 3MB on my line) and my SkyHD is always losing signal and failing recordings.

Before a make the leap over to Virgin, I would just like your opinion as to whether it would really be better, because I have heard that Virgin Media goes down frequently.
 
I am with them and have never had any problems. Their Tech dept is very good and not too expensive. As for broadband it depends on how far away you are from the phone exchange and how many people in your area are using it.
 
my mum had virgin and they kept sending her bills that she hadn't done. i think bt are the best im with them and there great, my mums still getting bills of them and shes not even with them anymore.
