i am now debating with my boyfriend how often we should feed the fish.

i think once in the morning and once at night is pleanty but he thinks we should do this but also feed them bloodworms or brine shrimp at teatime.

our tank is a 2 by 1 by1 tank with 42 small fish such as platties, guppys, neons, corys, algie eaters, plecys and simmese fighers

what is the best thing to do?

I fed my fish once a day. 1 or 2 times a week I give them "treats" such as bloodworms, shrimp, etc.. I have platies and they are little piggies. They will eat and eat. So you have to be careful not to overfeed.Otherwise you end up with sick fish and water parameters way off track. I guess one thing to remember is that a fishes stomach is only as big as their eye. So they don't need much food to fill them up. I just really watch how much I feed mine and make sure they are getting a well rounded diet. I feed flake food (color enhancing & veggi flakes), dried bloodworms, dried shrimp, and some frozen foods. Make sure your bottom fish are getting food and that they are getting a well rounded diet also.

I would say once a day, or once every other day. Feeding them two or more times a day is excessive. In the wild fish are scavengers and generally go a couple days without eating; their bodies aren't designed to hold excess food.

only enough that they can eat in 2-3 min. twice a day is good you dont want to feed them too much they might get constipated or swim bladder which will cause them to swim weird and perhaps die.
besides too much food will cause you tank to get dirty faster.

2 times a week is enough, they will eat and eat if u let them, but it isn't good for them
