How often should you adjust bicycle gears?

I have a racing bike but I don't do racing or anything I just cycle every night for a bit of exercise. The bike is only about 5 months old so far I have adjusted both brakes front and rear and cleaned and oiled the chain. The gears are working perfectly but just wondering after how long should you adjust them and than after that how long should you do it before you adjust the derailleurs.

Also how often should you adjust the front derailleur?
