you should never clean your tank...

Once a week, do a 15%-25% water change, rinse filter medium in syphoned tank water.
When replacing water, be sure to de-chlor it first or same time if cannot do it before.
With the addition of new water, put a bio pouch in the filter medium, and/or use something like, "aquarium life liquid or geo liguid".
It will help bacteria at an exceeding rate and control all water parameters.

once a week, remove 25% with a gravel vacuum and replace with clean conditioned water. during this time you can also scrub the algae if needed.
