How often should I change the automatics transmission fluid on my 2002 Ford...

every 60k to 100k miles if you really need to. You'll have to take the pan off in order to have access to the filter or screen inside, then of course make sure you change the transmission pan gasket as well.
It's kind of a pan to do, since the transmission on that is sitting up and down in stead of flat.
I wouldn't be to concerned with changing any earlier then about every 4 years or 60k. That's the optimum change period but many go much longer.
You also have the option of flushing out the transmission fluid and torque convertor fluid with a flush machine used at many garages and service centers.

Proper procedure should be in the owners manual.
In most cases the tranny fluid may never have to be changed, unless you tow or are a harsh driver.

To change the filter, drain the tranny fluid, take off the pan. the filter should be located right under the pan.
