How often do you groom a horse?

I was just wondering if there was an average amount of grooming a horse needs - or does it just depend on the breed and coat of the horse?

I dont think theres a average amount that you should do, i guess it just depends on where the horse is kept, in a stall, in a dusty paddok etc. I personally groom my horse in the morning, and everytime before i saddle up and after im finished exercising him.. it keeps him in good condition and makes the coat look nicer and cleaner

You don`t want to groom too much as it take`s the oil`s from the horses coat which he need`s.

It`s a good bonding time grooming your horse though.

If he keep`s getting dirty then groom him almost every day to every second day but don`t worry if you don`t brush him for up to a week.

You can also just wait and brush him when you are away to ride him so the saddle doesn`t rub on dirt and hurt him.

prob Groom him at least once a week but preferably even second day or longer if he`s clean

Though make sure you clean out his feet every day.

It depends on the horses coat and how the horse is. For example i have to cobs, however i groom one alot more than the other because he rolls alot wheras the other other one keeps herself quite mud free. Also depends on the season, i find horses need less grooming in the summer when the mud is hard and it isnt raining so much as in the spring/autumn in the winter they dont need as much grooming because they have rugs on alot of the time and a bit of dirt and grease in their coats is good to keep them warm.
Horses with thicker coats such as cobs need more grooming than say an arab or a tb because they have quite short hair which doesnt collect as much dirt and grease. However its very important not to overgroom because its the dirt and grease that keeps your horses warm in the winter.
I groom mine everyother day in the summer, in the winter twice a week and spring and autumn i groom everyday.
Hope this answers your question :)

I own to colored horses, a paint horse and a spotted tennessee walker. Both love the mud and the poop so I can't exactly let it be. So I groom them once everyday. No bathing or sprays, just a good brush over and their oils stay. I pick out hooves 2-3 times a day. The fox trotter that someone is having me take care of though is solid black so I don't have to worry about him staining like the paints so he doesn't get it as much but I'll stick take care of his hooves just as much.

usually I'll give mine a flick of in the morning to get rid of any shavings of him before he goes out + pick out hooves, then I'll give him a better groom before I ride concentrating on where the saddle & girth goes & pick out hooves again, then after I've ridden if he's sweaty I give him a sponge down if he's not then a flick over where the saddle & girth went & hooves again. I leave his mane & tail, they are usually bagged to keep them clean (he's got very long thick mane/tail - gypsy cob used for showing), but before I ride I will pick out any shavings in them.
