How much would it cost to text someone in the Philippines in the US on a t-mobile cellphone?

I have a friend who lives in the Philippines and we have each others cellphone number, but we don't want to text each other until we know how much it will cost per text.
We do web chat, but she doesn't own a computer, so I can't talk to her until she pays for timed computer access.
Is there a way I can text her for free without paying a fortune?
