How much would it cost to rebuild a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4.6L V8 Motor?

Hey I was driving my 2002 Ford Explorer a couple months ago when I heard a low knock, I then noticed that I had a loud knock because the motor had no oil, idk why my oil light didnt go on but I put oil in it and everything and the noise got lower but I do not drive it because I don't want to make the problem worse. I was wondering how much it costs to rebuild a motor compared to getting a whole new one. Also it would be good if you could tell me some ideas whats wrong with the truck, but im pretty sure i know already, but all suggestions and price ranges will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
