Even though the story was a boring scifi movie , the production and technology used to make the movie was revolutionary. According to wikipedia they had:
Square accumulated four SGI Origin 2000 series servers, four Onyx2 systems, and 167 Octane workstations.[10] The basic movie was rendered at a home-made render farm which consisted of 960 Pentium III-933MHz workstations. The render farm was made by Square Pictures located in Hawaii. The film had cost overruns during the end of production.[11]
Now that is alot of computers and servers to make something like that movie.
How about now though? What would it require to make a final fantasy spirits within in today's technology?
I've just played like an hour of Final Fantasy Xiii, and the prerendered scenes are amazing, and dare I say much better than the Final Fantasy Spirits Within movie, and probably more imaginative and better than James Cameron's Avatar.
So the question is ? If Final Fantasy Spirits Within was made today , how much would it cost? and What Technology would be required ? Would they need 960 computers to render the hair again ?
