how much would it cost to fix or replace a transmission on a jeep grand

cherokee in elizabeth, nj? my aunt is giving me a '94 jeep grand cherokee but the transmission is out. how much would it cost to repair it? or would i be better off replacing it?
 
A rebuilt transmission will cost you at least $2,500 or so to do. I don't know how hard those transmission's are to work on, but most transmissions cost about $2500-$3600 to rebuild. It would probably be easier if you could find a car in a junk yard or just find a transmission someone is selling that will work in your car. They probably sell for like $500 or so used, and you can get it put in for another $500 probably, so $1k for a new transmission, You could do it that way 3 times probably before you equal the cost it would have been to rebuild.
