How much would it cost for a new/used transmission for a 95 Ford Taurus SHO MTX?

I was pulling out in reverse and a piece of my transmission fell away along with a dowel or whatever it's called...the car still runs but it has a baseball sized hole in the transmission...how much would it cost to replace it? Or could it just be fixed?
 
for the hassle and cost to fix that you would be better off to part it out and get something else to drive
