Snakehead fish are native to China but are imported into the US as aquarium fish as well as food fish. Snakeheads can cause serious problems to native fish populations if they get established in US waters

Not quite sure exactly how far Santa Ana is from San Fernando, but I know as a fact that Exotic Life Fish and Reptiles on Topanga between Lassen and Devonshire has Florida gars. They had about 5 of them last time I went.

Sorry to break the news, but there's a Federal Ban on snakefish. You won't be able to buy them to keep as pets. I'm not sure that Oriental markets would be allowed to sell live fish for the purpose of using them as food. Too many people have released their pets into ponds when they got too big, and they've become an environmental problem.

You should be able to get a gar, though. Have you checked the pet stores around where you live? It might not be something they normally have in stock, but they could probably order 1 for you. I hope you know they'll grow so they about 2 feet long, so you need to have a BIG tank for them!!

Snakeheads are banned thoughout the USA.

If you have to ask price you can't afford to keep a Florida gar. These are monster fish and need a swimming pool sized tank.
