I had an advisory note from my mot saying brake efficiency is 53% and has only just met the legal requirements, but they said they wouldn't know how much it will cost till they opened it up and had a look, i know its not A lot to go on but was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it could be and how much?
thanks

hi if front brakes!!pads are 30quid discs 15-20 pound each, so 70 quid plus labour at 1hour and no more, so approx 130 with vat..

if rear brakes 35 for shoes approx, 1 hr to fit and adjust..80-100Pound all in..

Depends what's wrong - service brake or parking brake? Could be any or all of;
worn pads
worn shoes
worn discs
worn drums
siezed calipers
siezed handbrake cable

Anywhere between £50 & £500!

Difficult until someone takes the wheels and drums off but as a rule this might help

Fronts :- Pads and discs fitted about £150 plus VAT
Rears :- Shoes and cylinders fitted again about £150 plus VAT, Another £100 if it needs drums and bearings

This is a very rough guide but it might help you to budget

Generally the most that it comes to on a KA is front discs and pads and rear wheel cylinders and shoes so about £300 plus the dreaded VAT
