My friend drove me a few places, and I want to pay her back the cost of the petrol she has used. She has a Ford KA. I have worked out she's driven me 83 miles. I was wondering how much this would have cost her?

Thanks!

The old inland revenue or HMRC say that the cost of a car is about £0.40 per mile and that is what they allow for tax reclaim purposes. This is not just for the petrol it is for wear and tear, insurance etc.

That would say that you ought to give her £0.40 x 83 which is £33.20 so call it £40 I would say
A taxi would have cost at least twice that.

well we travelled 140 miles in a 2.0 litre mondeo and it cost us £25.00 so cheaper than that :)

A Ford KA does about 45.6 miles per gallon. You did 83 miles. That means you used 1.82 gallons. In litres this is 8.27ltrs. Petrol costs about 95p a litre. So based on that, the journey cost £7.86. If you want to divide that by the two of you, it would be £3.93.

Arnt you a good friend. I wish my friends would give me petrol money.
