How much transmission fluid does a 95 Chevy Blazer hold (max)?

I am draining part of my transmission fluid in my 1995 Chevy Blazer. I overfilled it when I changed the filter, a few days ago.

How much is SUPPOSED TO BE in this transmission case and am I correct to put DEXTRON(r) fluid in it?

Is the (basic) DEXTRON type fluid still "best" or is another version considered better for my SUV?
