I need to have it done to pass inspection. My mechanic said that overall it would cost $200. Is this accurate? He also said he would need to fix my alignment afterward as a result of replacing the tie rod. Is this necessary?
That seems fair considering most places charge like $79 just for the alignment alone. Always ask for the old parts, or you could replace it yourself and just pay for the alignment.
If you do it yourself it will be about $25 for the part, and after you put it on it will be about $50 for an alignment. Or pay the $200 to have it done. That is a fair price, but you could probably get it done cheaper.
