How much of K-12 is indoctrination? In a free society, nobody should be

forced to go to school, or what? Is forced public schooling really for the good of the pupil, or is it more about creating obedient little robotic technocrats who think that they are free? or for creating well-paying jobs for teachers who might otherwise have to do "real work," physical labor?
Technocrats supply the goods and services to the rich aka "powers that be."
Is it not a fact that, once a boy or girl is taught to read by his mom and dad, that he or she can teach himself/herself everything else academic that they need or want?
I distinguish between pupils [sic] and students.
In proper English, school kids are called pupils and college/university students are called, well, students.
Either we live in a free society (USA) or we do not.
To my mind, if you are forced into public schooling against your will, you are not free.
