Like, one who is doing relatively well but is not famous, for example, if you are not into fantasy and you have heard of them that's to well know. Someone who would be well known within the community though.
I think every author makes the amount of money he either wants to make or the amount he deserves to make. Besides, its not about the money all the time...a good story is just as important. And in my opinion it won't matter if you are a good, or well known author even if you are a little bit famous, if i dont like your book i wont read it.
