I'm currently 17 years old and am in grade 11. After high school, I will be enrolling in the University of Alberta School of business. At that university, I will be enrolled in the bachelor of commerce program with a major in accounting and a minor in finance. This will take me 5 years to finish my post-secondary.
If it is of concern, I will be turning 23 when I'm done my program. I will then have to take the 3 year program to get my chartered accounting designation. Obviolously I'll be 26.
I know that depending on the economy, chartered accountants make an average of $50,000-$70,000/year starting out. And after a few years of experience, can make well over $100,000/year.
However, my teachers said her husband made $150,000 in the first 3 months of this year working his behind off.
Now, the average chartered accountant only works lots during tax season. The average accountant only works about 8-10 hours per day for the rest of the year.
However, I'm a careerist. I don't care if I work 18-20 hours per day any day of the year because i want a truck load of money.
So what I'm wondering is with this rigorous work ethic, how much dough can I be pulling in a single year? Starting out and partnering in a major accounting firm? Or starting my own practice?
