I don't think it takes 'faith' so much as pent-up resentment.
Kind of like sending one's kids to boot camp - it's usually the result of fed-up parents who simply aren't completely opposed to the idea of their children being abused anymore.

It depends on how much you trust Pastor Bob. If you trust him very much, you'll give your responsibility to him and pray so that your son is okay at home. But if you don't trust him, don't leave him with Pastor Bob. Maybe you can find other options like finding someone you can trust or cancel the summer camp (eventhough is hard) to show your son that you love him more than anything else.
