my history teacher said cell phone chargers release some chemical when they are plugged in and no cell phone is attached to the other end. this applies to many appliances. how much energy is being wasted from just leaving these things plugged in and what is the name of that emmited chemical???

many electronic items need to be plugged in when not in use. your computer has a battery that keeps your date, time etc. while its shut down. if the computer is plugged in, this keeps the battery charged. i would not call this a waste. your instant on tvs need to remain on or lose their programming. i think your history teacher needs a lesson in modern technologies.

i know that my radio uses more when it is not in use. i have alot of stuff on power strips so i can turn off the strip and go. they have cool power strips that cost alot that are made to save energy so when something is pluged in and not in use so not pulling energy from it the power strip turns it off. cool i know it was on alot of talk shows a while back. there is alot of stuff we can do to save money for our selfs and for the power company and also for the world.
