My dad got me a car for my 16th birthday about a year and a half ago. I stopped driving it for a while because i didnt have my license and i was tired of driving with my mom. So i tryed to start it up, and found out i had a bad alternator. I know that it is the alternator because i have my sources0_o Anyway how much would it cost to fix it. My dad said around $30, is he right?

It totally depends on the year and make- 30bucks is only going to get you one from the junkyard-may-be

depends on the car, domestic or foregin, i got a rebuilt one from autozone for a cavalier for 80 bucks, and put it on myself, car has ran fine every since

if you cant put it on your self your looking at around 150 minimum for a shop to do it

really depends on make..most replacement alternators are rebuilds..some more exotic makes or models are quite expenses..I have replaced several alternators ove the years on chevy 359 engines and rebuilts were always reasonable..about 80 to 100 bucks..my daughter had a vw golf and i could not find a rebuilt anywhere and that cost over 600 dollars..i do not know what you would pay for one out of the junk yard, but as always, those are hit or miss..good luck

He's pretty close. You can get a remanufactured alternator for between $30-50 at Autozone, or from $60-100 for a new one (depending on what kind of car it is). If you and your dad can install the new one, that will be about it. If you take it to a shop, it will cost at least $200 for parts and labor.

It depends on the type of car. But definitely more than $30 for sure. How did you narrow it down to the alternator. It would more likely be the battery if you let it sit for a while. Alternator would not necessarily make the car not start.

depends on the car and weather or not your going to replace the alternator with a remanufactured or new one.
But assuming your dad is gonna install it, alternators are priced about $80-$200 for a new one.
A reman or used one from junkyard yes could in fact be $30 or more but somebody has to put the replacement in as well.
