How much does a transmission cost for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I just bought a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for $1,600 and I was wondering if it's worth the price I paid since I have to buy a new transmission for it.It's automatic, 4x4, and 6 cylinders. Around how much would a transmission for it cost? And is it worth investing in it? Thanks!
 
I had a 98 ZJ that I sucked quicksand into, and burned up the tranny. I pulled it myself and had it rebuilt for $500. Depending on where you live it would probably be $1000 to $1500 to drop it off and pick it up with a new/rebuilt transmission installed.

A maintained inline 6 4.0 liter Jeep engine will run 250,000 miles.
