How much do medical malpractice lawyers typically make?

I thought I wanted to go to medical school, but after taking some med school classes with my grad school(it's tied in with a med school and we get to take some med school classes) and working in the ER, I'm not sure it's for me.
Thing is, I've been stuffing so much Biology down my throat I'd be an idiot to not do something medically related. And I do like medicine, but...I'm just not sure if being a doctor is the right fit for me.

I heard about medical law from the doctor I work for- her husband does this, although apparently he sucks at it- and I was just wondering what kind of money a medical malpractice lawyer can make?.. Now, I understand that with law, there is no clear cut annual sum that everyone is going to be making. It depends on how many cases you take on, and whom you are working for- be it a hospital, doctor's office, insurance company, patients, etc.

But can anyone give me the general range of annual salaries of these lawyers? And which type of medical malpractice lawyer makes the most and the least?... Maybe I'm just being a greedy jerk, but since I always thought I wanted to be a doctor, I thought I'd make enough to support my family; before I apply to law school this summer, I want to make sure I'll be able to make enough to pay back my huuuuge school loans, and have enough to live on.

Thanks a bunch for any info you can provide. :)
