It is all over the map some live at home with their parents and make very little. Some make a lot of money. It is like saying how much do golfers make, or how much do actors make. In general, the economics of the law are getting worse every year. There are so many lawyers, and new law schools are opening all the time, some lawyers can't find any jobs. A lot of lawyers struggle to make $40000-$50000 a year with some experience, this is about what most people can expect as a defense lawyer, sound glamorous, come join us?

Well I commend you on your ambition for sure. Your heart needs to be where your money is on this one. It depends on how good you are. I would ask a prosecuter turned defense attorney and other defense attorneys - even judges. Not this site. You will have to defend people in whom you know for a fact in your heart are guilty. Then again - you can be an advocate for those whom are innocent such as the "The Innocence Project" or for people who are just plain innocent period. I find it odd you would ask this question. Most of us know that defense attorneys not in advocating positions do make a good salary. Have you even dabbled into law school yet? Whenever folks need to defend their lives, liberty, property or good name you don't stand to make much. Whenever the guilty are truly guilty - you will make a fortune. Hope this helps.
