How much data is lost in ripping a CD to Windows media player and then transferring

that data to an MP3 device? Do files ripped into Windows media player at a low kbps rate then transferred to an MP3 at another low kpbs get reduced by both of those transfer rates combined? If so, what would be the recommended settings to have on both the device and Windows media player ripping for a 2 GB music player?
