Lets say the terrain is flat.
If you can give different averages for different terrains that would be very helpful

Cheers

Your question is too vague to give you a decent answer. Are you talking about touring, racing, rail trails, charity events or 24 hour races. The type of bike you use will determine what your average speed will be.

Are you planning on a 24-hour ride?

What kind of bike (Road or Mountain)?

I ride a mountain bike to commute to work. I average 18-20mph on flat ground, but I can hit 35-40mph downhill. Some steep hills will slow me down to 7-10mph. My ride home is slightly uphill most of the way (some steep hills) & I average 16-17mph home & 18-21mph to work. On a road bike you should be a bit faster (although I keep up to many of the roadies I see & pass a few).

So MTB = roughly 15-20mph x how long you're planning to ride.
And Road = roughly 20-25mph x time.

Figure 4-6 hours to cover 100 miles.

Of course racers would be a lot faster & cover more distance.
